Note the 'Greenbelt' of flowers and vegetation in the picture. Greenbelts help stop runoff from entering the lake. Build one on your waterfront, with help from WB Township Dept of Environmental Services. The Lake Water Quality Index was developed by members of the American Society of Limnology and Oceanography. Pine Lake's water quality testing program is an ongoing series of tests which continually monitor the state of our water and various other components that comprise the total lake water quality. Water samples are usually obtained twice yearly, spring and summer, at ten stations and are tested for the following:

  • Temperature, Secchi Disk (water transparency), Dissolved Oxygen, Total Phosphorus, Total Nitrate, Nitrogen, Alkalinity, Chlorophyll, Conductivity, Hydrogen, pH
  • Some of the other tests are performed on the lake either once, every 3 - 5 years, every decade or yearly. They include: Lake bottom sedimentation, Watershed analysis, Lake shore green belt program, Soil samples, Storm drain runoff, Pesticides, herbicides and mercury, Algae study, Weed survey fish survey, Zebra mussels

Pine Lake has the invasive Eurasian Milfoil and a Hybrid Eurasian Milfoil (EU) in Pine Lake. The board enlisted the help of Dr. Doug Pullman, PhD to help it establish a more precise Lake Management Plan and Objectives for aquatic weeds in Pine Lake.
Dr. Pullman uses his Aquest LakeScan (tm) to survey Pine Lake's aquatic weeds and measure location and intensity of invasive weeds. Dr. Pullman has identified 14 varieties of aquatic plants in Pine Lake and found it to have good biodiversity. Pine Lake has nuisance plants, which include EU and Starry Stonewort, which are the focus of Pine Lake's Management Program. See Dr. Pullman's reports below.
